Downtown Lakeland Events

First Friday is November 1 – The theme is Lakeland Electric Celebrates 115 Years–Locally Owned by You! This month is also Tribute to Courage, in honor of National Military Family Appreciation Month! Organizations that offer services to Veterans will be set up in Munn Park.

The Downtown Farmers Curb Market is every Saturday morning from 8am – 2pm – read our recent post to learn more about what you’ll find a the market.

Art Crawl is Saturday, November 2 – a one day festival featuring local artists selling artwork and competing for prizes alongside live music, live art demonstrations and featured local organizations and sponsors that proactively support the arts.

Savor the Season: Sip & Shop – Get your holiday shopping done early {and enjoy an adult night out!} at Downtown Lakeland’s first annual Sip & Shop event on Thursday, November 21 from 5pm – 8:30pm. Stores will be open late, and the shopping will be great!

The Lakeland Magic kick off their 2019-20 Season this month!

Open HouseSaturday, November 2 – this is your first chance to see the team in action. The Lakeland Magic will open practice to the public on Saturday, November 2 at 11:00AM. Hear from Head Coach, Stan Heath at 11:30AM and visit with Lakeland Magic players while watching practice as the Magic get ready to tip-off the season.

Season Opener Watch PartyFriday November 8 – The Lakeland Magic play their first season game on the road, and you can join the Watch Party at Glory Days Grill.

Polk County Schools Showcase

The Polk County School Showcase is Saturday, November 9. If you have a student in Polk County schools, are looking for more information on educational options in Polk County, or are even considering going back to school yourself, the School Showcase (formerly the WE3 EXPO) is the place to be the second weekend of November!

At this event you’ll find over 400 booths spotlighting the innovative careers, schools, and programs offered across Polk County. There will also be demonstrations highlighting the unique activities found in Polk County Schools. Booths include:

  • Pre-Academies for middle school
  • Career Academies for high school
  • Magnet/Choice schools

Polk County School Showcase

Veterans Day

Veterans Day is November 11 and there are multiple local events scheduled November 9th – 11th to celebrate our active duty and retired U.S. Service Members, including the Lakeland Veterans Day Parade on Saturday. Imperial Symphony Orchestra – Thum Prints

November 15 @ 8:00 pm
An unusual and brilliant musical collaboration, Thum Prints is the creation of world-renowned beat box artist Tom Thum and acclaimed composer Gordon Hamilton. Tom’s beatboxing agility and Gordon’s orchestral compositions seamlessly interweave with one another to create harmony within the juxtaposition of sounds. {This is going to be a GREAT show for teens and kids who enjoy beat box music!} Pre-concert lecture begins at 7:15 p.m. in the theatre. Harvest Holler Corn Maze is open for the season through November 10 this year. If you’ve never been to Harvest Holler, it is a fall “must do.” Click here to read more and see photos from our visit last year.

There are also a few more Fall Festivals on our calendar in November including Polk County’s Fall-O-Ween fest in Dundee, Auburndale’s Fall Fest, the Fall Harvest Festival at the Visitor’s Information Center, and Heritage Baptist Church’s Fall Festival. Volunteer at the VISTE Thanksgiving Meal Delivery

The VISTE Thanksgiving Meal Delivery is a great opportunity to volunteer with your family! Volunteers are needed to deliver 1,800 meals to our local seniors on Wednesday, November 27. Many of these clients may otherwise spend the holiday alone, or would not prepare a meal for themselves. This is a great opportunity to give back during the holiday season. Children are welcome to volunteer with you! Head to the RP Funding Center at 3pm to pick up the meals and a map of delivery locations. Click here for more details.

Volunteers are also needed in advance to bake pumpkin or other seasonal bread for the Thanksgiving meals. Individually package slices, muffins, or mini loaves are needed. Children can also decorate placemats or create holiday cards to go along with the meals. Contact VISTE for more information.

Polk County schools will be out for 5 days over Thanksgiving week – from November 25 – 29. If you’re looking for kids camps for Thanksgiving Break, activities to keep your kids busy, or if you need childcare while you’re working that week, our Thanksgiving Break Camp Guide can help you find camps in Lakeland and across Polk County. Many of them are half days or allow single day registration which is perfect if you’re trying to get in some cooking or cleaning before Thanksgiving company arrives!
