Introducing: Local Moms + More — A New Community by Lakeland Mom

Polk County Moms Group Local Moms + More by Lakeland Mom

Ten years ago this spring, I started dreaming up the idea that would become Lakeland Mom. Since launching in fall 2015, it’s grown from a small website into something much bigger—a trusted resource, a vibrant community, and a helpful guide for families across Polk County.

From summer camp guides and local events to a Facebook group with thousands of moms, my goal has always been the same: to make life easier (and more fun) for local families.

Now, I’m excited to share something new from Lakeland Mom—an additional way to connect and support each other, both online and in real life. Introducing…

It’s not just another online group—it’s a thoughtfully designed space off social media that makes it easier to find your people, have meaningful conversations, and enjoy motherhood (and life) with a little more support.

And don’t worry—LakelandMom.com isn’t going anywhere. The website will continue to be your go-to source for local guides, events, and resources. This is a new option for moms who want more.

Inside the community, you’ll find:

  • Subgroups by city, parenting stage, and your hobbies + interests beyond motherhood
  • An events calendar for planning playdates, moms’ nights out, and local meetups, both online and IRL
  • Real conversations with real names—without algorithms or distractions
  • A focused, welcoming space outside the noise of social media

It’s hosted on a new platform (Mighty Networks), available from any device, and designed to help you connect, share, and thrive—whether you’re new to the area or just ready for something more.

If you’ve ever searched for mom groups near you and ended up feeling more overwhelmed than connected, Local Moms + More was created with you in mind.

Whether you’re looking for a casual support group, want help connecting with other moms near you in Polk County, or just need a place to be yourself—this is the space.

  • You’re new to the area and want to meet other moms
  • You want more intentional conversation (not just endless scrolls)
  • You don’t have a lot of free time—but still want to feel connected
  • You want to share life, laughs, and local tips with women who get it

We welcome moms at every stage—including those who are expecting, parenting newborns, toddlers, school-age kids, teens, or even grown children. You don’t have to be actively parenting to belong here—there are spaces for grandmas, future moms, and women in all life stages who are simply looking to connect.

Even if you already have your circle, this is a space to expand it—with no pressure. Just kindness, support, and shared experiences.

If you’re wondering why this community runs on a membership model when everything else we’ve offered in the past has been free – here’s the honest answer: it’s the best way to build something sustainable, intentional, and truly valuable.

For nearly a decade, Lakeland Mom has been free for readers—funded by advertising and supported by website traffic. But the online world is changing fast. Social media platforms have become more unpredictable than ever, and with the rise of AI, more people are getting quick answers without ever visiting the original source.

That shift has a real impact on small, independent publishers like Lakeland Mom. It’s made it clear that we need a new approach in order to keep showing up for local families in meaningful ways.

Creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming space for moms—one that’s organized, well-moderated, and actually feels good to be in—takes time, technology, and a whole lot of heart behind the scenes. A membership helps support that work while giving you something of real value in return—and it allows us to stay focused on what matters most: building community.

We know that real connection is priceless—but also not always easy to come by. That’s why this membership isn’t just about joining another group. It’s about investing in a valuable space that makes finding your people simpler, more meaningful, and better supported—whether you’re new in town, craving deeper friendships, or just tired of surface-level scrolling.

Whether you’ve been part of Lakeland Mom from the beginning or you’re just discovering us now—thank you for being here. This next chapter is all about creating community.

LakelandMom.com isn’t going anywhere. The website will still be home to all the helpful resources, event calendars, and guides you’ve come to rely on.

Local Moms + More is a new option—for those who want more community, exclusive Lakeland Mom info, and a space that feels a little more personal.

Let’s connect, share, and thrive — together. I can’t wait to welcome you inside.

Who can join the Local Moms+ More community?

We welcome all moms, caregivers, and women from the Polk County area and nearby Central Florida communities – including Lakeland, Winter Haven, Bartow, Auburndale, Plant City, and beyond. We welcome women at every stage and from all walks of life—grandmas, bonus moms, foster moms, future moms, and women who aren’t called “mom” but still want connection and community.

Not living here yet but planning a move to Polk County? Come on in! We’ll help you feel connected even before move-in day.

Why this community just for women?

This space is designed to reflect the needs, voices, and experiences of women. We share resources for all parents on LakelandMom.com, through our weekly email newsletter, and on the Lakeland Mom Facebook and Instagram pages. We love the idea of creating a dedicated space for dads and may explore that in the future.
