TIP – Trivia is a GREAT activity to do with teenagers! My two boys love going to trivia nights and they often know answers that the adults do not.
If you’ve never been, here is a short explainer on a typical trivia night:
- Be on time! You usually have to play all of the rounds to have a chance at a prize
- Trivia can either be played digitally (you pick the answers on your phone) or on paper where you write down answers and a trivia host checks your answers between rounds
- You usually play as a team with your table, most games have a limit on team size to keep things fair
- Trivia nights are family friendly BUT if your child isn’t going to be entertained by participating in a trivia night we recommend bringing something to entertain them (and headphones if it involves video/audio)
- A trivia host will run the evening festivities – they typically read out the questions and you have a reasonable amount of time to select your answer.
- There are multiple rounds, often with a different theme or topic for each round
- Most trivia nights are general knowledge which means any topic could be selected. There are also themed trivia nights that are all on one topic (ex – Harry Potter, Friends, Disney, etc)
- The winning team(s) typically receive prizes of free food, drinks, or gift cards
