Conversations in Behavioral Health: Navigating the Digital Age is a great event for parents and family members, teachers, administrators, and others wanting to learn about overcoming challenges or trauma and improving the lives of children by fostering a healthy balance with technology.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Dr. Lisa Strohman
, co-author of Digital Distress: Growing Up Online, a national speaker at schools, parent organizations, businesses, churches, and community groups where she addresses the challenges of raising responsible digital citizens and the realities of technology. She is regularly featured in the media as a technology wellness and behavioral expert. She has been featured by national TV and radio news outlets and quoted in numerous print publications. Strohman created and founded the Digital Citizen Academy dedicated to improving the lives of children, parents, and educators by providing resources, tools and knowledge needed to foster a healthy balance with technology.

OTHER PRESENTERS INCLUDE:
Dana Chandler
, co-author of Digital Distress: Growing Up Online Companion Workbook, is a retired school principal and teacher, dedicated to training educators, counselors, and parents about technology safety. Chandler teaches practical strategies for helping students learn a healthy balance with technology.

Amanda Wilson, author of You Can SOAR: From Trauma & Grief to Triumph & Glory, will lead an enriching workshop centered on resilience within the family unit.

SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY:
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will join us for “Digital Danger: Parental Awareness Required”, where he will discuss the danger of the digital world, sharing real-life Polk County cases where social media and online platforms were used as weapons to victimize and prey on children.

Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Frederick Heid will share “Social Media’s Impact on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)”. He will discuss the unprecedented social pressures and challenges our youth are facing, particularly given the widespread usage of social media among adolescents and even preteenagers, as well as cover tips to help families understand and address factors that put our community’s youth at risk.

A grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds 100 percent ($123,672) of costs for this program.
