Libraries in Lakeland and Polk County provide FREE summer activities to keep kids and families engaged all summer long. Summer library programs include a variety of hands-on activities, storytimes, movies, performances, guest speakers, musicians, and more. You can have fun and learn something new, all at the same time. All library programs are FREE! 

Below you’ll find a list of in-person library activities and storytimes for Summer 2021. Check directly with your local library for other things to do this summer including the Tails + Tales Library Summer Reading Program, reading rewards, take-home craft kits, and more.

Many library activities have limited space and require advance registration. Details are provided below, check directly with the library for any registration requirements. You can also find library programs on our calendar, along with year-round kids and teen activities.

Lakeland Public Library

This summer, enjoy the weekly Tails + Tales Storytime at the Lakeland Library. Every Tuesday at 10 am from June 8 – July 27, 2021 in the Children’s Room. All ages are welcome.

Due to limited seating capacity, registration is required.  Registration for each session opens one week in advance at 10 am – visit the Library Calendar page to register.

When registering, please select the number of children attending for the “Number of People Attending” dropdown.  Parents should not include themselves in the registration count. Storytime begins at 10 AM.

Due to limited space the library cannot accommodate summer camps, daycares, or groups at storytime.

You will also be able to watch the Main Library’s storytime live from the comfort of your own home on Facebook!

The Main Library is also offering a Kids’ Sewing Camp – Spools Out for the Summer June 28 – July 1 from 10am-11:30am. Registration is required and opens 1 week in advance.

Larry R. Jackson Branch Library

The Larry R. Jackson Branch will host a Summer Storytime every Thursday at 10 am from June 10 – July 29, 2021. Storytime will take place outside in the shaded grassy area behind the library. Bring a chair, blanket, or towel to sit on, or just kick back in the grass. All ages are welcome. No registration is required.

Please note that the library cannot accommodate summer camps, daycares, or groups at storytime.

The Jackson Branch Library is also offering a Kids’ Sewing Camp – Spools Out for the Summer July 12 – 15 from 10am-11:30am and July 19 – 22 from 5:30-7pm. Registration is required and opens 1 week in advance.

eLibrary South Lakeland

The eLibrary will offer take-home crafts and activity sheets that complement the summer reading themes each week.

They are also offering a Kids’ Sewing Camp – Spools Out for the Summer June 14 – 17 from 10am-11:30am. Registration is required and opens 1 week in advance.

Auburndale Public Library

The Auburndale Library will have video programs featured on Facebook and YouTube. Elementary videos will be uploaded on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and preschool videos will be uploaded on Thursdays at 10:30 AM. Activity packets will be available for pick up each Monday, containing crafts and games that relate to the weekly theme. June 21 – July 22, 2021.

Bartow Public Library

Join the Bartow Library for Summer Storytime from June 8 – July 29, 2021.

  • Ages 6-8 on Tuesdays from 2 – 3pm. Stories, games, crafts, and a film.
  • Ages 3-5 on Wednesdays from 10 – 10:45am. Stories, music, fingerplays, and short film adaptions of children’s books.
  • Ages 18 months – 2 years on Thursdays from 10 – 10:30 AM. Book Babies includes Nursery Rhymes, music, fingerplays and bubbles.

Haines City Public Library

The Haines City Library is hosting a variety of summer programming.

Preschool Storytime – Ages 2 – 5 | Wednesday’s at 10:30 AM | Stories, songs, puppets and a craft. Limited space available. First Come/First Serve.

Elementary Craft Program – Kindergarten – 5th Grades | Tuesdays from 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM | Explore a different Animal themed craft every week. Drop in style crafts. Each craft takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. Dress for a mess. 8 families at a time to allow for social distancing.

Minecraft – Alternating Tuesday’s from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM | Play Minecraft together as a group. 7 Players at a time. We will have 15 minute timed rotations if there are more than 7 players.

Mario Kart – Alternating Tuesday’s from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM | Play Mario Kart together as a group. 8 Players at a time. Alternating races will be available if we have more than 8 players.

Family Movie – Friday’s at 10:30 AM | Snacks are welcome but not provided.

Join the Lake Alfred Library for Storytime every Wednesday from 10-11am, designed for ages 1-4. Stories, Music, Singing and Crafts.

Mulberry Public Library

The Mulberry Public Library hosts so many events for kids we have a hard time keeping up! Visit the Mulberry Library Calendar for upcoming events and to register for summer programs.

Preschool Story Time – Every Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Fun Stories, Songs, and More! Ages 5 and under. FREE Program, no registration required. Held in the Mulberry Civic Center upstairs from the library.

Tails + Tales Summer Programs – Join the Mulberry Library at the Civic Center each Monday and Friday at 10am all summer for hands-on activities. Most programs are for all ages, a few are specifically for adults.

Movies at the GEM – Join the Mulberry Library at the GEM Theatre for Summer Movies! All ages welcome to attend. Check the Mulberry Library calendar for upcoming movies. FREE program – seating is limited, please register online.

Winter Haven Public Library

Get your tail in gear from June 14 – July 29 for Summer Reading 2021! Kindergarten graduates through 5th graders can pick a day each week to spend an hour with us making cool crafts to take home and other fun activities! Registration is required for each event as space is limited to 20 kids per day. Register on the Winter Haven library website.
