Sunflowers bloom in Florida in the Spring and Fall, meaning we get two u-pick sunflower seasons – typically March / April / May and October / November – however, we have seen a few farms open in December and January as well.

Visiting a Sunflower Field in Florida is a great outdoor activity for families. Local farms open in the spring and fall for U-Pick Sunflowers, and there are also Sunflower Mazes you can explore near Tampa Bay and Orlando.

These beautiful sunflower fields will provide you with a day of family fun and stunning photo opportunities! Take a day trip to find a sunflower farm near Lakeland, farms listed below are anywhere from 30 minutes – 2 hours from Lakeland, Fl. Check directly with each farm for dates and times, some farms are only open for sunflowers in the spring or fall.

Sunflower picking tips:

  • Farms tend to communicate via Facebook. Links are provided below to check for recent updates.
  • Dress comfortably for the outdoors with closed-toe shoes. You WILL be walking in dirt and you may get dirty!
  • Wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen – fields are in the sun. Light colored clothing is best.
  • Pick early in the morning when it is still cool.
  • Take CASH!! Many fields only accept cash.
  • Keep in mind these are working farms, so there will be ants, bees, etc. If you or your children have allergies, take precautions.
  • Snap plenty of amazing sunflower photos!

Spring Hill Sunflower Farm – Jimmy Mc’s Farm

Jimmy Mc’s is a four-generation farm specializing in life-size family games including human foosball, animals, maze and u-pick peanuts and sunflowers (depending on the season). All activities (except the maze) are located under century old oaks. Pet a goat, chicken, pony, sheep or cow.

Fall Season: end of October through mid-November. Maze, animals, u-pick peanuts, family games.
Spring Season: April-May (dates vary). U-pick sunflowers and picnic.

Hunsader Farms Sunflower U-Pick field is open in the Spring only – May and early June.

Spring 2020: Sunflowers are open Mon-Sat 8am-3pm and Sunday 10am-3pm, you do not need reservations or tickets. Prices: $2/person to enter the trail/field. $1 each flower for u-pick. CASH ONLY.

Important info from Hunsader Farms:

  • Entrance to the field and cut flowers are CASH ONLY.
  • Social distancing procedures will be required
  • There is no parking charge. You will enter through our main gate at the address below and follow signs to the field
  • Sunflowers shall be cut at the stem, not pulled out with the root. Bring your own cutters or scissors.
  • Wheel chair accessible: the ground of the field is uneven and in dirt. There is no stairs to get to the field but there is a steep hill. A wheelchair with big tires may work, but we have an alternative area for those in wheelchairs that we will direct you to.

Sweetfields Farm in Brooksville has a Sunflower Maze in the Spring (and a corn maze in the Fall).

Spring 2020: Advance ticket purchase is required, tickets provide access to the farm for a 3 hour block of time. Check back regularly on their website, Facebook page, or Eventbrite page for when new dates open up for ticket sales.

Ticket Prices: $8.00 per person + tax and ticket fees (Ages 3 & up). Ages 2 & under are free.

More info from Sweetfields Farm: Each person 3 yrs or older is required to have a pre-purchased ticket to attend their purchased time slot with them for entre. You will only have visitation during your purchased time slot.

It will include the ability to walk through the sunflower maze field, access picnic areas, visit with the farm animal areas, beautiful photo opportunities and access the u-pick veggie gardens to pick and purchase this season’s crop.

It will also allow access to shop the gathered produce stand in the harvest barn. During this season some unplanned changes have had to be made. Due to Covid -19 restrictions and guidelines our visitor access and activities will be BEAUTIFUL but different than our usual sunflower season event. We are excited to be able to open our grounds and share all the amazing SUNFLOWERS with you. As usual, you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and picnic blanket (No Alcohol). Lots of fresh air and beautiful flowers! Don’t forget your camera, your hat, your sunscreen, your smile.  SORRY NO PETS.

What to bring extra cash for: Sunflowers, Veggie Launcher, Produce, Food, Drinks. **Unfortunately due to Covid 19 safety restrictions Sweetfields Farm is not expecting to have available: The Hayride, Pitcher Pump Duck Race, Spider Web Rope Maze, Swings, Tree House Play Area, The Tumble Weed Rollers, Peddle Cars, Paint Craft and the Face Painter.**

HarvestMoon Fun Farm is open for Sunflower Season in the Spring. They have a sunflower maze and u-pick sunflowers in the spring (and a corn maze in the fall).

Spring 2020: Advance reservation is required, tickets are free. Reservations are currently available through the end of the month on their website. Please wear face coverings or mask when interacting with staff. {We have also seen on occasion they allow same day visitors if they have had cancelations, check Facebook for details}

Ticket Prices: There is no gate admission, however there is a $10 minimum purchase of flowers per adult (18 & up). Sunflowers are $2 each.

Five generations of Graham’s have been farming in Umatilla since 1918. Their main crops are Oranges and Peaches. The farms opens for U-Pick Oranges in November – January, and U-Pick Peaches in early May. In 2019 they planted their first U-Pick sunflower field and maze.

Dunnellon Sunflower Field and Pumpkin Farm – The Pickin’ Patch

The Pickin’ Patch is a family owned u-pick patch located in the heart of Dunnellon (be sure to map it out – almost 2 hours from Lakeland). Come and pick your pumpkin off the vine, take a hayride, walk through our gourd trellis, find your way in our maze, let your kids play on the hay fort or kiddie hay maze, pick sunflowers, and enjoy live Bluegrass music.

Southern Hill Farms in Clermont hosts a Fall Festival on the Farm in October/November– hot, fresh apple cider donuts, craft beer, s’mores for roasting over fire pits, festival rides, bounce houses, petting zoo, and a wide variety of pumpkins in all colors, shapes and sizes. Zinnia and Sunflower U-pick! $1/stem zinnias, $2/stem sunflowers.

In the spring, they have u-pick strawberries, a bakery, refreshments, market, yard games, playground, picnic tables, and more.
