St. Patrick’s Day Festivities

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 and we’ve got a list of activities to celebrate the Irish and get into the St. Patty’s Day spirit. Find events in Lakeland, Winter Haven, and Polk County area. Family-friendly events include the Erin go Bragh Irish American Heritage Festival at Explorations V, Gaelic Symphony with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, a FREE St. Patrick’s Day Concert with the Lakeland Concert Band, a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Winter Haven, the “UNParade” in Bartow, and more.

The Imperial Symphony Orchestra presents Gaelic Symphony

Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm at Branscomb Auditorium at Florida Southern (venue has been changed). The first symphony composed and published by a female American composer, Amy Beach’s Symphony in E-minor, Op. 32 drew inspiration from English, Scottish and Irish melodies. The piece debuted in 1896 to critical acclaim and continues to delight and inspire audiences today. Click here for tickets.

Art Shows

Polk County is home to multiple annual art shows that host artists from all over the state and even the country. Two local favorites happen in March:

Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 – Enjoy beautiful artwork at the Bloomin Arts Festival in Bartow.

Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 – Head to the Central Park Art Festival in Winter Haven for fine arts and crafts.

Saturday, March 142nd Annual Sugarbuzz Dessert Festival – Shop with a wide variety of “sweets” vendors–talented purveyors of pies, pastries, cookies, donuts, sweet breads, and more!

Saturday, March 14Spring Obsession – An annual celebration of garden, art, and music. You can buy plants or art, listen to jazz, have a tasty snack, and enjoy beautiful downtown Lakeland.

Kid Con at Explorations V Children’s Museum

March 21 @ 9:30 am – 4:30 pmExplorations V Children’s Museum in Downtown Lakeland, Florida, is hosting the first ever Kid Con on March 21, 2020. Kid Con is a day to celebrate superheroes, princesses, doctors, and anything our imagination can dream.

Just like the famous Comic Con conventions, Kid Con invites guests to come in costume.  Activities included with general admission. Click here to learn more.


The U-Pick Strawberry season is in full swing! Check out our list of Strawberry Farms within a 1 hour drive from Lakeland.

February 27 – March 8 – Enjoy strawberry creations, rides, games, and exhibits at the Strawberry Festival in Plant City.

Up Up & Away Florida – a hot air balloon festival at the SUN ‘n FUN Campus is Friday, February 28 – Sunday, March 1.

Breastfeeding Support Group – this FREE monthly group meets on Monday, March 2 at Lakeland Regional Health.

Matilda The Musical – February 28, 29, March 1, 6, 7, 8 – weekends at Lakeland Community Theatre.

CommunityFest in Winter Haven encourages the community to come together and enjoy games, entertainment, food and more. Saturday, March 7.

Orange Cup Regatta Speedboat races on Lake Hollingsworth. Bring a blanket and a picnic and watch the races from the shores of the lake. Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo – Kicks off March 31 and runs through April 5. Read our post from last year (will be updated mid-March for 2020) for tips on attending with kids.

Friday Fish Fry – During Lent, local churches host fish fry events on Friday nights. We put together a list of churches hosting these dinners, as well as restaurants that host fish fry dinners OR specialize in seafood.
