The Polk Museum of Art is the largest and the only nationally accredited visual arts organization in Polk County and has been a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum since 2010. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office offers opportunities for teens and women to learn how to defend themselves through a FREE Personal Safety and Women’s Basic Self Defense Class. The class consists of lecture (approximately 15 minutes) and hands-on techniques (approximately 45 minutes). Attendees will demonstrate all of the techniques on a body opponent bag (B.O.B.) which will be supplied.

Teaching creative play and socialization through dance movements, the child learns poise and balance through stretching and breathing. Dancers learn direction, grace, poise, tempo and how to work as a group. Also, they learn isolation, focusing on one part of the body. Classes run for 6 weeks.

Prodigy is a research-based prevention and diversion program for at-risk students in grades 1 through 12. Prodigy uses visual and performing arts as a way to reach over 3,000 students (annually) who live in high-risk neighborhoods.

What’s Cooking? teaches children the importance of clean eating and cooking from scratch in a peanut free kitchen that caters to everyone’s allergies. Camps and classes are offered to further develop cooking skills and teach children about local foods, restaurants and our natural environment.
