Without further adieu, here is our September Top 10 Activities for Lakeland and Polk County.

The Downtown Lakeland Farmers Curb Market is back! The market is open every Saturday morning from September – July in Downtown Lakeland. At the Downtown Farmers Curb Market you’ll find local produce, local plants & flowers, locally made bread & pastries, herbs, loose organic tea, foods, honey, hot sauce, local artisans, local vendors, and much more! Learn more about the Lakeland Farmers Curb Market and other Farmers Markets in Winter Haven, Bartow, & Lake Wales in our Farmers Market Guide.

Family Fundamentals classes begin in September! Family Fundamentals offers classes on a weekly basis for children from infants through age 5 where parents and children will learn and socialize as they participate in fun, stimulating, developmental activities. These classes are FREE and a great opportunity to meet other moms and caregivers. For babies – age 2, classes are offered 1-2 days a week. For ages 3-5, classes are offered daily at 9:30-11:15am that includes a story and school-readiness activity time in the model preschool classroom. The annual Junior League Thrift Sale is Saturday, September 14 from 8am – 2pm.  This is an opportunity to purchase high quality items at a low cost to support the League’s Mission and annual events including the World of Reading Festival and Lakeland Christmas Parade.

Sale includes: Men’s & Women’s Clothing, Children’s Clothing, Shoes, Accessories, Jewelry, Toys, Home Goods, Furniture, and more! The sale will be held at 3125 Drane Field Road, Lakeland, FL. For more information, please visit the Junior League of Greater Lakeland website.

Enjoy an old fashioned carnival at Night at the Museum at the Polk Museum of Art on September 14 from 7-11pm. The free event will feature a carnival experience in the style of the late 19th century, including an arcade, food vendors, games, and other period entertainment, as well as a brief interactive history of French-versus-American Impressionism and the opportunity to view the Museum exhibition.

This one-night-only event is open to all ages. (Game tickets and food will also be available for purchase throughout the event.)

On Saturday, September 21, 2019 you can visit Explorations V Children’s Museum in Lakeland, Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, or Cracker Country in Tampa for FREE as part of Museum Day Live hosted by Smithsonian magazine.

Harvest Holler Corn Maze opens for the season on Friday, September 20! They’ll be open through November 10 this year. If you’ve never been to Harvest Holler, it is a fall “must do.” Click here to read more and see photos from our visit last year.

Bartow’s Outdoor Movie on the Lawn starts back up on Friday, September 27 with How to Train Your Dragon. These outdoor movies are FREE and always family-friendly. Bring your own blanket or chairs, grab dinner from a downtown Bartow restaurant or bring your own picnic, and enjoy a movie under the stars. Movie begins at dusk. Outdoor movies are typically held monthly and can always be found on our calendar

Head to Downtown Lakeland every weekend this month for family-friendly fun!

The Festival Singers of Florida will perform at First Presbyterian Chuch on Saturday, September 21 at 7pm. FPC is delighted to have the Festival Singers of Florida perform as their first guests in the 2019-20 Performing Arts Series. The Festival Singers is a highly select, annually-auditioned choral ensemble consisting of women and men throughout Florida and the Southeast. Their mission is to present choral music at the highest level of excellence and to provide an artistic outlet and promote music growth for singers in the area. Tickets are $10 for adults. Students will be admitted free with an ID. Children are free. Seating is general admission. 

September is a great month to start something new and look for places to meet other moms! We’ve got a list of 10 Great Ways to Meet Mom Friends in the Lakeland area including mom groups, kids activities, storytimes, Church groups, fitness classes, service clubs, and more. You can also join the Lakeland Moms Group on Facebook as another way to connect with local moms. 

Fall is in the air coming soon… we hope? Either way, we’re starting to see pumpkins, scarecrows, and fall leaves around town… and with them comes the return of all things pumpkin spice. (Caramel is more my thing… which you can find at these coffee shops too!)
