Although February is the month of LOVE, our Top 10 list of fun things to do in Lakeland & Polk County covers everything from carnivals to 5k races to BBQ to music to Mardi Gras to a Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Valentine’s Events for Families

Valentine’s Day is all about LOVE and what better way to show your kiddos the love than with some quality time together! We’ve got a list of events including a Family Dance at Explorations V Children’s Museum, Daddy/Daughter Dances, Downtown Date Night, plus ideas for family activities around town.

Imperial Symphony Orchestra presents Salut d’Amor

Friday, February 14 @ 8:00 pm

Spend a symphonic evening with your sweetheart at the Polk Theatre! The Imperial Symphony presents an evening of classical works beginning with Elgar’s “love letter” Salut d’Amour, an engagement present to his future wife Caroline Alice Roberts.

The ISO’s Concertmaster Nina Kim and cellist Edevaldo Mulla will present Brahms’s Double Concerto, the Romantic era composers reconciliation with an old friend. Tickets available on the ISO website.

Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center Promise Run

Saturday, February 29
The Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center Promise Run celebrates its 6th Anniversary this year, and we’ve got two exclusive discount codes for Lakeland Mom readers through February 22.

The Promise Run is inspired by people who believe that a community can come together to conquer cancer. It’s a celebration of the lives of loved ones touched by cancer and a Promise to strengthen the health of everyone around us.

Participants run or walk picturesque 5k and 10k courses that begin and end at the Lake Mirror Promenade in Lakeland. Runners and walkers will enjoy beautiful views of Downtown Lakeland,  Lake Mirror, and Lake Morton, as well as Lake Hollingsworth on the 10k. A FREE Kids Run follows the completion of the 5k. The Lakeland Magic have a full home schedule this month with 3 themed games and 1 Sunday Funday!

Black History Celebration – Saturday, February 1 @ 7pm – Celebrate Black History Month by joining the Lakeland Magic in a night dedicated to honoring black history, culture, and heritage.

Faith & Family Night – Friday, February 7 @ 7pm – The Lakeland Magic has teamed up with Southeastern University to bring you Faith and Family night, a night filled with fun for the whole family. Bring your family and plenty of cheer to support your hometown team.

Sunday Funday – Sunday, February 9 @ 3pm – Spend your Sunday with the Lakeland Magic for Sunday Funday. Stop into any Metro by T-Mobile store in Polk County to get a free ticket to any Sunday game this season. Also enjoy $4 mimosas all game long!

Hoops for a Cure – Friday, February 21 @ 7pm – Join the Lakeland Magic in the fight against cancer by attending Lakeland Magic Hoops for a Cure night. Come celebrate survivors and remember those who have lost their battle, with heartfelt performances and more. All survivors will receive free admission by visiting

Mardi Gras Community Carnival at Resurrection Catholic Church & School

Join Resurrection Catholic Church & School for their Annual Community Carnival happening Thursday, February 20 – Sunday, February 23, 2020.

At the Resurrection Carnival you’ll find a huge variety of professional rides, all of your favorite carnival food, traditional midway games, kids activities, and MORE! Resurrection’s Carnival is family friendly and open to the public.

This is not a mom & pop fair, it is the REAL DEAL with professional carnival rides from a company that does all the big fairs and festivals! There are rides and activities for all ages. Located on the grounds of Resurrection Catholic Church & School, located at 333 Terrace Way, Lakeland, FL 33813 (MAP IT). BBQ Festival season in Polk County continues in February with 3 popular events! Smoke on the Water in Winter Haven Feb. 7-8, Grills Gone Wild in Davenport on Feb. 14-15, and Ribs on the Ridge in Haines City on Feb. 21-22.

Celebrate Mardi Gras

Celebrate Mardi Gras right here in Polk County!

Friday, February 7 @ 6-9pmFirst Friday in Downtown Lakeland is Mardi Gras themed. Enjoy food, drinks, beads, and more!

February 21 – 22Lake Wales Mardi Gras is back for its 36th annual family friendly celebration on February 21st and 22nd, 2020. Since 1984, the annual Mardi Gras parade and festival has entertained thousands of residents and visitors in Lake Wales with floats, beads, live music, food and spirits. Lake Wales Mardi Gras draws estimated crowds of 20,000 people to Lake Wales over the 2-day event. Lake Wales Mardi Gras is one of the largest events of its kind outside of New Orleans! Annual 5k Glow Run – Friday @ 6pm
Mardi Gras Festival – Friday @ 6-11pm & Saturday 11am-11pm
Mardi Gras Parade – Saturday @ 3pm

The Festival includes live music, children’s activities, local food vendors, beer and wine sales, and activities for the entire family. The parade boasts dozens of floats from the local Mardi Gras Krewes, media personalities, County Commissioners and the Polk County Sheriff Dept. including Sheriff Grady Judd.

Up Up & Away Florida

Lakeland is hosting a BRAND NEW EVENT  this month! Come out and enjoy Up Up and Away Florida – a Hot Air Balloon Festival – taking place February 28 – March 1, 2020 at the SUN ‘n FUN Campus. This 3 day event includes vibrant colorful balloon glows, mass ascension of balloons morning and evenings, tethered balloon rides, live music, great food and beverage options, arts and craft vendors, helicopter rides, kids zone, aerialist performances, and much more.

KIDS GO FREE!! Kids under 12 receive free admisison. Discount tickets are available online for $15 per day or $20 for 3 day weekend pass.
